she fell in love with his smile
he was enamored with her eyes
they both held on to hope that
love this time will stick around
but slowly things fell apart
he stopped coming around
she fell into bitterness
their hope withering like
a blooming rose covered in snow
perhaps they fell in love too soon
maybe they should have waited
for their connection to fully bloom
before taking the deep plunge
- Written for dVerse Poetics: False Spring
Oh Maria, a well-known false spring, that most of us have experienced. I love the simile ‘hope withering like a blooming rose covered in snow’.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim.
DeleteI love the brevity of statement in the lines - like a coroner diagnosing a dead love
ReplyDeleteThank you Laura.
DeleteShame shame on that pesky false spring .... rose/love/hope withering in the chill. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you Helen.
DeleteThat is a sad turn to a relationship. What was hopeful turn to bitterness. This part was striking to me:
ReplyDeletetheir hope withering like
a blooming rose covered in snow
Thank you Grace.
DeleteHaven't we all faced this! Beautifully written, Arcadia. Some relationships end too soon.
