autumn came
just when I was
getting used to
summer’s breeze
she stole my
evergreen view
and turned it to
brown and gold
when I adjusted
to her crisp air
she departed like
a broken whisper
as winter came
with icy blue eyes
and claimed her
throne once again
- Inspired by Poetic Aside Prompt #498 - autumn poem and Twiglet #144: a broken whisper
Love your description of the passing seasons!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this.
ReplyDeleteI love this personification of autumn! I especially the lines:
ReplyDelete‘when I adjusted
to her crisp air
she departed like
a broken whisper’.
she stole my
ReplyDeleteevergreen view
and turned it to
brown and gold
Beautifully set and great word-craft to describe the change in colours of the respective seasons!

She wears a crown, in her own right, and I'm saddest when she passes it to winter.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone 🙂
ReplyDeleteI love the circle this makes.
ReplyDeleteAnd so it goes.... beautiful composition.
ReplyDeleteHey Arcadia — Hi poet!. Wanted to let you know I am “temporarily” sightless in my right eye from a retinal disease. It is a struggle fir me to write, but I will still wrote my pieces, going very slowly. Reading at any length is extremely difficult, and causes painful headache — so wanted to say thanks for contributing to OLN. But I won’t be able to read what you wrote, yet I wanted to visit. I spent a little time writing this best I could with one eye, i copied it, and I am pasting it in here to say hi. Got an operation coming up in about a week when the infection is down. Hopefully things will get back to normal.thanks, Rob
ReplyDeleteWishing you a speedy recovery Rob. Thanks for reading and commenting.
DeleteThis captures that feeling of loss for the passing of summer and the glory of Autumn. At least we have a beautiful distraction before the winter starts.
