I
remember when Easter
was
about painting eggs
in
vibrant spring colors
or
giving an Easter speech
in
church – to the horror
of
my introverted self
but
now it’s just another
holiday
with no day off
its
magic for me
has
faded in time

It's funny you mention that. I just found out my bank isn't even taking an extra day off. Now that makes me wonder just how far downhill society has wandered. My bank never misses a day off. You have illustrated that quite well!
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in Germany, we always painted or 'marbled' eggs for Easter and ate them for breakfast on Eater Sunday. It was a special time. Where has the magic gone? Covered with chocolate and commercialised, just like Christmas.
ReplyDeleteSo true ! Reminds me, how we are losing the values.
ReplyDeleteBut behind it all (eggs, Easter, even work)is the power of the Resurrection! If only we can reclaim that hope.
ReplyDeleteNothing is too sacred to commercialize.
ReplyDeleteHa.. you should move here... we have two extra days off but Friday has changed a lot since I was a kid... used to be super solemn...
ReplyDeleteHaving no day off does diminish sense of the holiday.
ReplyDeleteI am very much looking forward to a four day weekend here. Many businesses are closed. If I had young grandchildren, I would definitely be painting eggs.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone. :)
