whatever you do, don’t fall asleep
don’t get pulled into whimsical dreams
that make only promises they don’t keep
stay out of darkness and search for light
chase after sunrises and rainbows
don’t linger under gray storm clouds
I’m standing here waiting for you
to join me in the lavender fields
please stay awake, don’t fall asleep
- Written for dVerse Poetics: I'ts Not That Scary
My inspiration came from this horror movie quote: "Whatever you do, don't fall asleep" by Nancy Thompson, Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).

Interpretation is strange...I used the same line but said not to fall asleep to forget a promise...so different but the same idea.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Thanks for reading Christine.
DeleteArcadia, your first stanza resonated with me. A lot of things can happen when you're asleep and dreaming, some of them hard to undo.
ReplyDeleteSo true. Thank you JadeLi.
DeleteI’m familiar with those ‘whimsical dreams that make only promises they don’t keep’, Maria. The best place to meet up, in lavender fields.
ReplyDeleteTrue. Thanks for reading Kim.
DeleteSometimes it's good to dream, and other times it's better not to fall prey to them.
ReplyDeleteThat is true. Thanks for reading Merril.
DeleteI think if there are lavender fields it would be a good reason to stay awake.

DeleteThe promises not kept aren't so often in dreams these days...
