unrequited

I wrote love poems

expressing my desires

to carry your heart

 

a spatter of ink

across countless lined pages

were words of love songs

 

a mere fantasy

another had claimed your heart

I’m left with just dreams

a mother's story

from a tiny baby 

she watched her

grow to an adult 

she barely knows 

 

perhaps she was too 

harsh in her rearing

but she only did 

what she thought best 

 

from afar she watches 

her hatchling spread 

her vast wings, soaring 

towards endless clouds

swept away

in moonlight

I search for

your smile

 

bright as stars

my heart is

swept away

 

silver stars

sing love songs

until dawn
