Poem for today - another Octain Refrain attempt with a little variation at the end:

“the way things were”

I wish things could be as they were
before everything fell apart
back to when you still held my heart

to go back before the lines blurred
dreams went astray and lost their way
bad things that should have not occurred

can we just forget and restart
and wish things back to where they were

Poem for today:  Octain Refrain

Here's my first ever attempt an Octain Refrain poem:

“returning soldier”

the ghosts of the dead haunt him still
plaguing his mind with such nightmares
in his dreams, all they do is stare

the doctors try to help with pills
yet every night, they come with fright
and slowly they break down his will

he wants to live without such cares
but ghosts of the dead haunt him still
