last day and first day

last day of the year
last change to say
the words I want to say
last time to do fun things
before the grind begins
last hours to reflect
on what was gain and lost
but tomorrow will be
the first day of the year
first change to take that step
first time to tell you
my true feelings
first hours to begin
writing a new chapter
adding to life’s novel

- To everyone, have a happy and prosperous New Year.

eternity

eternity
is what I wanted
with you

eternity
is what we promised
each other

eternity
is what slipped through
our fingertips

eternity
is the dream I keep
holding onto

there was a time

there was a time
when Christmas was
magical – in a
child’s eyes

but as we grow
it looses its charms
commercialization
takes over

then it becomes just
another holiday spent
digging into pockets
for gifts

even if when we
come back to the
reason for the season
and reclaim that magic

it is still not the same
without your child’s eyes

- For those who celebrate, Merry Christmas.

ten

ten is the day I took
my first breath
entering this world
on a promise
of new beginnings

ten is the age
I was when my body
became a woman –
shedding blood,
a promise of motherhood

ten became twenty,
thirty and now forty
every decade bringing
some new chapter
for me to write

I don’t know what forty
will bring but I hope
it’s something good,
not sad – I had plenty
in the other decades

it was like magic

it was like magic
when our eyes met
the loudness of life
diminished into whispers
and I was head over
heels in love

but like magic it only
happens occasionally
never staying long
enough to take root
like sycamore trees
in deep green forests

I wish I had bottled
that magic potion
to keep at my bedside
to remember what
we once had before
the magic disappeared

eyes pulling me in

it was your
eyes pulling
me into
deep oceans

of sea blue
never to
see the sun’s
light again

I have no
regrets in
falling for
those dark eyes

as if no one was watching

as she danced with grace
she released all her burdens
letting her mind drift
into soft musical notes
as if no one was watching

so close

so close
yet you feel
so far
my fingertips
tingle at
the thought
of holding
you in
my hands

so close
yet you feel
so far
a dream
that will
be snatched
from my
aching hands

so close
I can taste it
I just hope
I am not
dreaming

let us cheer

let us cheer
to a forthcoming
new year
another chance
to make things right
a new beginning
for changes
a time to reflect
but move on
to new chapters
let us cheer
for good intentions
and let’s hope
for better days
to come forth
