these stones

my mind drifts back to dreams

where I have the power to overcome

reality always pulls me back in

my soul lingers between light and dark

I try to find the space where I fit

it seems I never have enough time

- Inspired by Marvel Comics' six infinity stones (mind, power, reality, soul, space and time)

soft words

I remember your soft words
voiced from delicious lips
lingering in the breeze
like a morning perfume
kiss away my nightmares
that bleed into the day
let’s sail on blue oceans
and explore her secrets

bomba

we watch ladies dance with flowing skirts
to the rhythms of bomba drums
in those swaying bodies we get lost in beats
that takes us back home - an enchanting island
where the tropical sun warms our skin,
away from concrete jungles and suburban houses

- Bomba is a traditional dance and musical style of African roots in Puerto Rico.  Today it is seen as an expressions of Afro-Puerto Rican culture.   You may find more information about this dance here.

the best

I wanted to give you
the best of me
but I wasn’t sure
I was good enough
for you

you wanted to take
the best of your heart
to give to me
but fearful it would
shatter like glass

calming our nerves
I gave you the best
of me and you gave
me your heart
sealing our fates

different directions

you and I

                        two of a kind

once in step

                        now dance different tangos

you and I

                        now drift in

other directions

                        trying to get

to the same place

                        from opposite paths

- Inspired by the poetry line: "We go in different directions down the imperturbable street" - Gwendolyn Brook's An Aspect of Love, Alive in the Ice and Fire.

quarantine

I get lost in the week days

Mondays run into Thursdays

even the weekends have changed

summer sun is peaking out now

I open my door, closed all spring

get back to the normal groove

yet I confess this new way

does not seem so bad to me

I don’t miss the rat race at all

slip of tongue

I wanted to be coy

create a mystery

for you to crack

but a slip of my tongue

revealed all secrets

your eyes danced

seductively in moonlight

a slip of tongue between

my cherry chapstick lips

caused me to fall deep

into this liaison

- Written in response to dVerse Quadrille #105

things you learn on social media

you can know someone for years

thinking you know them intimately

one day it only takes a slip of the

tongue to know where their hearts

truly lie, shattering glass walls

built on false words, fogging up

rose colored glasses once held dear
