houseguests

lingering spirits glue to these walls
they don’t like us here, in spaces
they once occupied

they reach out with cold hands
that go right through, raising voices
which never reach our ears

in the dead of night, they take over
the sofas and kitchens, attempting
to reclaim their rightful places

when the sun returns, they slink back
to the shadows, watching others
live out the lives they have lost

empty window box

the empty window box
told me someone once
lived in this house
and planted budding
flowers in the spring
but now it sits vacant
leaves filling it's space
left behind to weather
the seasons all alone

magnetic

he stopped me dead in my tracks
maybe it was his charming smile
or magnetic eyes that drew me
out of my cocoon

but like many hot affairs
it ended all too soon
leaving me with memories that
keep me warm on lonely nights

cherry red sky

cherry red sky blossoms
as the sun takes her rest
under blankets by firepits
we wait for silver stars
and the ivory moon
to sing us tunes before
sleep lures us into dreams

October

we stroll in the park
under October sky
leaves of red, brown
and gold blanket the
once green grass

we think back to days
when we jumped into
hills of crunchy leaves
those days are now
far behind us, but
we still have autumn
