summer's end

near summer’s end
I watch sunsets
with more longing

soon autumn leaves
will cover grass
air turns chilly

before I go
let’s linger here
enjoy summer skies

pizza and cigarettes

sitting outside by the pizzeria at lunch
someone comes up to me to bum a cigarette
sorry I don’t smoke I say, but that’s okay
there are plenty of smokers outside
smoking Newports across from the school
under the illusion we are almost adults

in this garden

in this garden
where roses bloom
I await you

in an embrace
we share words
hidden too long

under silver stars
we hold hands
until morning light

- A tiny poem inspired by last week's dVerse Quadrille: How Does Your Garden Grow?

my garden

my dream garden
holds many flowers
in vibrant hues –
roses, tulips, lilies,
azaleas, violets
it also holds seeds
of hope, love, wealth,
happiness, peace
each watered by nature’s
rain or human tears
some bloom, few wither,
others never take hold
but that is life

sun moon stars

sun kisses our skin
as trees sway in the spring breeze
the flowers approve

I sing to the moon
lullaby under night sky
luring her to sleep

as twinkling stars dance
dark eyes pull me into dreams
time ceases to move
