season snippets

we listen to daffodils
spring fertile poetry

a beautiful night
sweet as summer vine

between fall breezes
our secrets murmur

and watch the moon
bloom in winter

she dreamed of skylines

she dreamed of skylines
towers that touch the clouds
while others dream of colonial houses
with white picket fences

she fantasized about trekking
across the globe as others
plan for babies and backyard
birthday parties

she steps to her own drumbeat
without any regrets

in September we say goodbye

it seems as though you are still summer
despite autumn taking hold
I don’t want to let you go
but time is not waiting
I give you a kiss
the leaves turn brown
days grow short
and nights
long

The first line of this poem, "it seems as though you are still summer" comes from the poem "To The Light of September" by W.S. Merlin.

They sleep with the moon

The day had been long and exhausting.  Mary was now tucking in her children into bed.

“Are we going to war now?” the son asked.

Mary leaned over and kissed her son on the forehead.  “Everything is going to be okay.  You have not need worry.”

“That’s not what Kenny said,” her daughter replied.

She turned to her daughter.  “I don’t want neither one of you worrying about this.  All you need to do tonight is closed your eyes and go to sleep,” Mary said, brushing her daughter’s hair to the side.

“Yes mommy,” the children replied.

Mary turned off the nightlamp as she exited the room.  An hour or so later, she peaked into the bedroom once more.  She saw both of the children sleeping.

“In their dreams they sleep with the moon” she thought to herself.

Mary smiled and closed the door.

your smile

your smile an ocean blue sky
heart like porcelain glass
I remember a caramel morning
we danced with champagne stars
you kissed me, soft velvet lips
eating away my darkest dreams
let us linger here for an eternity
of seasons and paint the stars
until the breaking of dawn
