they
say with age comes wisdom
well since turning forty-two
my bones and muscles
bother me more than at twenty-two
some
days I feel like shouting
why bother – toss aside my sneakers
until I look into the mirror
and decide to get up anyway
well since turning forty-two
my bones and muscles
bother me more than at twenty-two
why bother – toss aside my sneakers
until I look into the mirror
and decide to get up anyway
- Written for dVerse Quadrille #126 - Come "bother" up a poem
Yes! Got to keep moving Maria even though it can be painful sometimes 😯 A relatable quadrille.
ReplyDeleteThis is deeply poignant. We mustn't give up though it can be challenging at times.
ReplyDeleteuntil I look into the mirror
ReplyDeleteand decide to get up anyway
We are thankful we have crossed the bar of Forty and reality suddenly becomes a strong motivator. It can lead to a lot of good decisions based on the good years of experience! Nice words Arcadia!

I can relate! Reminds me of the prosery prompt 'sometimes the great bones of my life feel so heavy.' Still the young ones inspire me to get up and out there!
ReplyDeleteArcadia - I'm turning 42 this year... and my bones have been stiff for a few years already :-)
ReplyDeleteWell written!
Yours,
David
I love this (I wrote with a smile ... talk to me when you are about to turn 80) LOL. Seriously, this is an inspiring quadrille.
ReplyDeleteummmm hitting 68 and just starting to feel that pain... and btw where did that come from all of a sudden
ReplyDeleteAll too familiar - I'm walking with a stick these days.
ReplyDeleteYes! At 51, I feel this, deep. But we MUST bother, so it doesn't get worse. ;)
ReplyDeleteHah-getting up in the morning is when I (65yo) feel the /most/ energetic. It's all downhill from there.
ReplyDeleteTotally empathise with these sentiments ...
ReplyDeleteBeware... when you are sixty you will be unable to rest and have to get up.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone. 🙂 I honestly wasn't sure how this poem would turn out. Glad to see it resonates with many.
