dimmed lights
nightfall came too quick
I wish the day didn’t fade away
beyond the dimmed lights
I count the stars in the sky
as well as the hours until
I see your face again

under iced tree limbs
the tree limbs were covered in ice
under clear blue skies
I put on my gloves and scarf
to play in the fresh snow
that gifted me a day off from school
inside the house my mom makes
hot chocolate to warm my insides

homecoming
at sunrise she left home
to explore bounties that lie
beyond the borders of home
leaving behind the safety net
of the familiar
when she returned at sunset
she was a different woman
wearing new clothes
with a light in her eyes
that never appeared before

Twiglet #308 - returned home
