among roses, a sun rises

among the roses
we take in the sun rising
the sky turns golden
we hold hands for the last time
as stars say goodbye

vignettes of summer
under air conditioners
cold air blast against our skin
a cool oasis
chlorine fills the air
kids splashing in swimming pools
lifeguards sip water
we sit in the car
ice cream dripping down our hands
sun begins to fade
we chase fireflies
as the sky turns to violet
mason jars alight

passing dreams
blooming sunrises
softly kiss our waking lips
sweet morning hellos
afternoon smiles
quickening the heartbeat like love
swaying roses dance
cool fading sunsets
brush across skin like velvet
savory good nights
stargazing midnights
moon and stars beckoning us
we fall into dreams

taste of cheesecake
red cherry cheesecake
stares back at her from the fridge
her resolve falters
bites into the creamy slice
her hunger finds its release

signs
in search for a sign
she gazes upon the sky
studying the stars
even in daylight
she questions blooming roses
which path she should take
watching the sun set
she whispers a prayer that is
answered at sunrise

a summer day in August
under August sun
flavored ice-crusted snow cones
cools off our parched tongues
we enjoy the ocean view
until dusk whispers our names

cloudless sky
I take in the sky
azure blue, without a cloud
dark thoughts disappear

the sun sits pretty
the sun sits pretty
as we paint the autumn sky
we watch setting sun
holding hands, we silently
ponder what path to follow

firecracker
she was always a firecracker
her light would sparkle the night sky
a bit loud and unpredictable
