a deluge of tears
fell down my cheek
as I read parting words
that slit my heart open
I did not think
I could hurt so much
from an affair that
lasted only a season
but I had my hopes
I suppose I still do
but it gets harder
to believe in such dreams
That can hurt very deeply.. and I don't blame you as it gets harder to believe in such dreams.
ReplyDeleteIntensity is what causes pain...as much as, if not more than time.
ReplyDeleteIt can be a great chasm in our soul. You described it to a tee, thanks
ReplyDeleteI think we've all been there; if we haven't, we will!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing at how quickly we can get attached to a new relationship. I guess we fall hard because we're so newly invested and excited at the prospect of a new love. And I agree, it does get harder to believe in those dreams.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard when a relationship ends. I had one that ended after 13 years and for several years, I could not would not love. But then, the right man walked into my world. Happy endings. I wish happy endings for you.
ReplyDeleteSometimes those seasons can last forever. I know this piece will resonate with many.

The pain in this drips thickly. It touches deeply, Arcadia!
ReplyDeleteDeeply poignant...!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a deep cut! Those are painful but they're also a lot of fun while they last! Really great read!
ReplyDeleteSuch events really shape and scar in myriad ways, poignant...
ReplyDeleteOnce the heart is set on something or someone, the absence of that person will be deeply felt. Poignant but true.
ReplyDeleteYour words really touched me and I had to go away and come back again as I didn't quite know how to respond.
ReplyDeleteIt is true that many of us have been deeply hurt when an affair/relationship comes to an abrupt (and unwanted) end. How can love hurt so much?
Thinking of you.
Kind regards

ReplyDeleteA sadness I'm sure many of us have known. Yet it's always deeply personal.
