I had just broken up with my
boyfriend of two years. The need to shed
reminders of him was strong. I drown
them in cold alcoholic drinks under city lights. Who knew a baby shower could be like a night
at the club.
Afterwards I sat on a porch under
the stars. Row houses can be so steamy
in summer. In reality, it was probably
that flying cockroach that led us outside.
The three of us chatted the night away before the sky lighten. Slowly I began the process of piecing myself
back together.

I love happy endings! And yes, we do find ways to heal and move on. Good job! Great haiku.
ReplyDeletenicely tied up both the prose piece and haiku...
ReplyDeleteGood to go outside, cool things down and begin the process of healing again. Good for you.

Sounds like a fun baby shower! Good to have friends to chat the night away. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteGood details in this one. Row houses are especially challenging in the heat!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the heat makes a broken heart feel even worse...but it seems you were making the best of it by being with friends to cheer you up. Flying cockroaches FREAK me out!!
ReplyDeleteI like the direction this took.
