broken mirror

she refuses to look
into the mirror
and stare at her
own reflection
I cannot help
but wonder what
sort of pain lies
inside her soul
that would make
it impossible
for her to look
into the mirror
and peer into
her own eyes

  2. Some things we hold inside can be terrifying enough to makes us shrink away from ourselves. Thank goodness for those who venture to look from the outside... and help.

  3. How very sad. It only takes an unkind word from someone when she was a child to permanently destroy her self image. Or it could be deeper, of course.

  7. I think a sadness like this has at least a small element of self-loathing attached.
