we
watch this flame
that
has burn for millennia
yet
we seem too transfixed
to
extinguish it
maybe
we are too fearful
to
speak truths or
maybe
we don’t really
want
change as we claim
so
we watch the world’s
fire
illuminate the sky

A timely post. I think the youth of Parkland are illuminating the sky.
ReplyDeleteOh my...powerfully put. We are often so stuck in our ways, so fearful of change and afraid to speak our reality. I guess, to be honest, I should say "I" instead of "we."
ReplyDeleteI sometimes think that we are obsessed with the Phoenix myth... let it burn and something new and better will rise...
ReplyDeleteBut the day will come when we cannot rise again.
So afraid to change and now we wait and hope that it will turn out to be good on it's own.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely portrayed...
I held my breath reading this. It is ominous and it asks more questions than it provides answers.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh this is so timely! I wonder when we will speak up.. sigh...
ReplyDeleteYou capture that collective feeling of paralysis and helplessness that stunts our ability to act on our own behalf.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for reading and commmenting. :)
ReplyDeleteToo true words, these. And so sad.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me wonder what the fire is.
ReplyDeletePowerful! Do we really want the changes? Are we too afraid? shades of J. Alfred Prufrock. Excellent work.
ReplyDeleteMore like we are afraid of making changes. So we just keep on watching...
ReplyDeleteThanks again everyone.
