from ashes

the first time she died
she was fifteen
in the halls of high school

then at twenty-four
her first taste of true
heartbreak

once again at thirty-five
another sad love ending

but each time she rose
like a phoenix from ashes
to soar again

  1. Heartbreak does feel like worse than dying... </3 And being 15 is hard.

  3. Wonderful how you illustrate those moments that shape us and how we are able to go on from them, transformed.

  4. That's a fantastic opening line - it does feel like that at 15 - and then the ending is so soaring. Lovely, uplifting write.

  5. That's really rough, Arcadia... I hope she doesn't have to go through this again at age 44/45!

  6. I suppose heartbreak is a form of dying--a version of you dies. I'm glad she arose each time.
