stones

daily she collects stones
placing them in her pockets
and each day her walk
becomes more difficult

the pockets grow heavier
matching the sadness that
has enveloped her heart

she hears a nearby stream
pondering whether to go there
or towards the warm light

  1. Wow, this is a powerful image. I find myself wandering down to the stream with her, perhaps to toss those stones in one by one, making wishes...rather than wading in with them in pockets to chose another fate.

  2. How heavy those stones must be. How sad that she has to come to this point.

  3. The stones of our life do weigh us down and hold us back. I love the choice of going to dump them into the stream!

  4. So mamy of us walking around with pockets overloaded, contemplating rivers that seem to call more loudly every day, these days...

  6. it makes me wonder if going to the stream is so bad... it really depends on what she does there, doesn't it, Arcadia?

  7. I feel the heavy sadness of the heroine of your poem, but I am glad she still has the option of turning towards the light!

  8. Such an image of depression. I can feel the weight she's carrying. I hope she's able to turn toward the light.

  10. She has gathered those stones. And, there are so many actions that can come into play. Luv this analogy.

  12. Those kinds of stones need to be tossed back in to let the river roll them down stream...

  14. This reminds me of people who have a very difficult time seeing the positive. Each negative they consume, regurgitate, affects them and pulls them down. There is an adage to be sure and surround yourself with positive people. There's a reason for that.
