the lovers

"The Lovers" by John Atkinson Grimshaw

in the early light
they embrace not
wanting to let go

forbidden love keeps
their hearts aflame
in the midnight hour

yet in dawn’s light
they remember their place
is not in each other’s arms

they depart solemnly
holding onto shared kisses
that will fade in sunlight

  3. Your poem is romantic and tragic at the same time, Maria. A touching story of forbidden love.

  4. I liked the romance be likened to dusk and dawn, relished in secrecy and forbidden. Like Kim said tragic and beautifully written, Maria! Well Done. 💜
