Poem for the evening - a Décima poem:

“Friends”

in sandboxes we became friends
despite our opposite skin tones
spent hours talking on the phone
dreaming about future boyfriends
inseparable on the weekends
college brought us to new roadways
our talks dwindled down to birthdays
the gulf between us only grew
and now I don't recognize you
but still cherish our youthful days

  2. Oh, this is great. If only we could maintain the innocence and acceptance of our youth. But so many things seem to separate us when we're adults. I'm glad you have such nice memories though. Thank you for sharing.

  3. I really liked this. It's true too. I've lost a lot of friends because our paths took us different ways. You built the story well in this song-like form.

  4. It's sad to loose friends this way, but maybe it is necessary to find room for new friends on life's path. Love your decima.

  6. Very sad when one realizes that one has drifted so far away from someone who once was a good friend & that now it is too late to get the friendship back. Poignant piece.

  11. Yes, it can happen that way, but still the memories are good.

  12. Why does it have to happen this way? We grow up, have a family and everything becomes second. Sad, but just the way it is and you captured this wonderfully.
