early mornings

early mornings
were always my bane
I would rather stay in bed
until sleep fully escaped me
but I must admit to the beauty
of morning’s silence that
would bring serenity within me
before having to face the harsh
light of the daily grind

  1. I know that feeling well. That harsh light of morning is so loud too.

  4. My husband likes to lie in and I'm an early bird, so we both appreciate the sentiments in your quadrille, Maria. For me it's in the lines:
    '...the beauty
    of morning’s silence that
    would bring serenity'.

  7. Exactly... maybe if we appreciated the early morning a bit more it would be easier to stay sleeping.

  8. I can so relate to this wonderful poem. I am not a morning person, either. But lately I've been having an easier time getting out of bed because I know the first thing I'll do is get a hot cup of coffee and read my Bible. Gives me peace for the day that I would miss if I slept longer.

  9. I love the serene morning when much of the world is still sleeping but I, too, often what to just stay under the covers and sleep longer.
