The day had been long and exhausting. Mary was now tucking in her children into bed.
“Are we going to war now?” the son asked.
Mary leaned over and kissed her son on the forehead. “Everything is going to be okay. You have not need worry.”
“That’s not what Kenny said,” her daughter replied.
She turned to her daughter.
“I don’t want neither one of you worrying about this. All you need to do tonight is closed your
eyes and go to sleep,” Mary said, brushing her daughter’s hair to the side.
“Yes mommy,” the children replied.
Mary turned off the nightlamp as she exited the room. An hour or so later, she peaked into the
bedroom once more. She saw both of the
children sleeping.
“In their dreams they sleep with the moon” she thought to herself.
Mary smiled and closed the door.
- I thought I would try something a bit different today. A response to dVerse Prosery Monday: Moonbeams and Moon Dreams.
When we were children all we had to worry about was Billy Goat Gruff and the Gremlins under the bridge or some such. There are so many disasters for today's children to worry about. It makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteGlad they fell asleep...wish we could protect all children from terrors of violence!
ReplyDeleteIt’s amazing how children pick up on things, worry about them, and then their worries are erased by a few maternal words and a good night’s sleep.
ReplyDeleteChildren should not have to entertain thoughts of war — ever... just moon dreams! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope they slept with the moon and had pleasant dreams. Mother's have so much to protect the children from.
ReplyDeleteThis is incredibly evocative! A mother goes to such lengths to protect her children :)
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that children have to worry about these things. I'm glad the mother was able to soothe them.
ReplyDeleteI love that they could forget about the troubles of the world... we all need a mother to calm us down.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she was there to reassure them. Youngsters today have a lot to be concerned about. I enjoyed your story, Maria.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone. :)
