a
band-aid or a piece of gauze
can stop the bleeding
from cuts and abrasions
but some injuries are
more than skin deep
despite our best intentions
some wounds never heal
leaving behind scars as
a permanent reminder of pain
that always linger within
can stop the bleeding
from cuts and abrasions
but some injuries are
more than skin deep
despite our best intentions
some wounds never heal
leaving behind scars as
a permanent reminder of pain
that always linger within
- Written for dVerse Quadrille: What's in a word?
Sadly true ... nicely penned.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth! The ones we never see are usually the most painful. Well written Maria ☺️💔
ReplyDeleteleaving behind scars as
ReplyDeletea permanent reminder of pain

Yes they do... well done!
soul scars leave permanent reminders you are so right
ReplyDeleteDeep down there is damage. This poem reminds me of that fact even when the surface is healed.
ReplyDeleteSadly, this is so very true. Sometimes a word-lashing can be truly hurtful and we carry that wound, unseen by anyone, for a long time.
ReplyDeleteThis cut deep:
ReplyDelete'but some injuries are
more than skin deep
despite our best intentions'
- for me, the deepest wounds come from bereavement.
Very true.
ReplyDeleteThis is so poignant. I resonate with; "but some injuries are more than skin deep despite our best intentions some wounds never heal leaving behind scars."
