she
grew to despise mirrors
reflecting
all her flaws
and
imperfections that she
desperately
want to erase
she
hid from them so they
could
not catch her passing by
if
only she could see her
beatify
was greater than
the
numbers on a scale
- Written for dVerse Quadrille: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

We often feel that the person reflected and seen is not what we want! It is ok as we don't have to tell anyone else.
A good twist Arcadia!
Hank
Thank you.
DeleteWell written. It is sad when people have such fears. There are plus and minus in each person.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI identify with your mirror quadrille, Maria, and used to avoid mirrors. It’s taken years to see that my ‘beatify was greater than / the numbers on a scale’.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kim.

ReplyDeleteWe never see ourselves as we really are, do we? A powerful poem Maria. ☺️💕
Haha. I guess Google doesn't like iPads. Thanks for reading.
DeleteA powerful commentary. I feel for that woman. It's so sad.
ReplyDeleteThank you Merrill.
DeleteI feel the sadness and self-criticism in this quadrille, beautifully composed.
ReplyDeleteThank you Helen.
DeleteGreat message! I wish people wouldn't be so critical of themselves. That's what really reduces their 'shine'.
ReplyDeleteSo true. Thanks Susan.
DeleteI love the message in this one! Beautifully penned!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sanaa.
DeleteIt's all the mirrors fault, can't be that bad looking. But we know it's in here head. I liked your episode, long time span for a short poem. (I told a doctor that one time when he couldn't figure out--no one ever did, I still have them--why the ringing was going on. I told him it must be all in my head. He mustn't have picked up my attempt at a pun, he cussed at me, walked out, and slammed the door.)

Haha. Thanks for the stopping by Jim.
DeleteBeautifully expressed, Arcadia. Self criticism can ruin us.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed. Thanks for reading.
DeleteI think the mirrors are too flawed to show such beauty
