she loved the stars

she loved the stars
how they twinkle
in the autumn sky
serenading her with
their silver lights
 
what she didn’t love
was how they faded
in the dawn sky
leaving her in silence
under a rising sun

you were to me

twinkling in sky

out of my reach

I gave you the moon

to ensnare your heart

gladly given more

to be your star

instead you stayed

just a mere fantasy

and never to return

my kisses and pleas

bright star

you were the star

among many

that shined brighter

than the rest

it was your light

that caught my eye

and since that night

I haven’t been able

to turn away from it

you became the one

to steal this old

heart of mine
