valentine
funny valentine
is what I dreamed you would be
instead you became
my lost valentine that slipped
out my hands, forever gone

rose murmurs
walking in the rose garden
I could hear roses murmur
to one another
how I wish my life could
be so serene
to just bloom under sunlight
enjoy it’s beauty until
my season is done
life of a rose seems
more simpler than mine

supernova
I wanted a love full of passion
that would burst through
milky way skies
a love to last a thousand years
like heavenly stars
love is like the stars
it has it’s alpha and omega
eventually love will burst
like a supernova before
fading to dust

kiss on the porch
a kiss on the porch
was the moment
I fell in love with
the stars and with you
but I was young
and naïve to all
the nuances of love
so your departure left
a deep wound in my
heart until I was able
to make it whole again

in love
in love
my fingers tingled
with thoughts of you
my heart jumped into
my throat when I thought
how my life would be
if you were in it
but this
is just a dream
you are a far flung star
that I will never reach
and can only longingly
stare at every night
before I fall asleep

when we were young poets
when we were young and carefree
we wrote poems in the sky
watching them float away
like clouds on a summer day
as we grew older we drifted apart
like boats lost at sea after a storm
but I am still here poeming away

oleander

he spoke loving words
in Portuguese that made me
weak in the knees
I gladly ran off with him
across golden Sahara skies
and blue Mediterranean seas
I was blind to the lies
he hid behind the moon
while
promising me the stars
oleander now grows in
the place where my heart
once planted its roots
