when we kissed

I saw stars

dancing moons

under dark skies

cupid’s shot

struck my heart

I got lost

in love’s haze

I was blind

to the signs

that this love

would not last

rain and sunshine

sometimes I wish the rain would go away

and let the sun come out and play 

yet there have been times in drought 
I prayed the heavens open up and
release its tears upon our parched tongues

I guess I'm never satisfied with either

ducks on the road

the distraught duck stands in the street

another ones lies beside the road

I see it’s not moving

the other paces wildly

I drive around

slowly with

care

when I think of you

I remember the firsts:

eyewinks, crushes and kisses

in time memories changed

to longings, fleeting liaisons

and unfulfilled dreams

I guess it wasn’t meant to be

forevers

forever is a long time

and it seems like days

pass us by like lightning

in a summer storm

and yet I still search for

your eyes in Spring clouds

as if we have all

of eternity to love

perhaps we do – maybe love

passes on beyond cold graves

where we turn to dust and

vines covers up our names

I wish could make my mind

believe in theses forevers

but it keeps telling me

I only have these short days

muddling

pulled in a thousand directions

I’m trying to find my way through

this journey to reach my place

but the paths are hidden by wild vines

countless voices shouting out “come here!”

I’m just muddling through this midnight hour

looking for that glorious light
