evening whispers
we whisper into the breeze
as we lounge under palm trees
at nightfall we greet the stars
and the moon becomes all ours

Easter eggs

I remember when Easter
was about painting eggs
in vibrant spring colors
or giving an Easter speech
in church – to the horror
of my introverted self
but now it’s just another
holiday with no day off
its magic for me
has faded in time

spring me
spring me
into dreams
into fields
of blooming
flowers
spring me
out of darkness
into days when
the sun lingers
a bit longer
spring me
into new love
into warm arms
that will make
me feel safe
chase away
winter blues
that want to
hold my heart
a bit longer

far off mountains
looking towards
far off mountains
brought him a peace
he had been searching
for a lifetime
as the sun began
its descent into
those mountains
he took a mental picture
of the scene’s serenity
before being plunged
into darkness

the old house
the old house
held such dark secrets
in shadows
they all lurk
until the witching hour
to open my door
the belief
in ghosts never held
a strong hold
within me
until the summer night when
I smelled your perfume
it was you –
no doubt in my mind
through gateways
you returned
what it to check up on us
or just to pass time?
or maybe
you felt something dark
taking hold
in my mind
your presence was able to
push darkness away

after the fire
after the fire
we slowly picked up
the pieces that were left
of our lives in an attempt
to place it back together
but despite our best efforts
cracks still were visible
and what remained was
just a shadow of what
we once were

snow in March
snow in March can be quite annoying
I want to dream about budding flowers
and the return
of chirping songbirds
instead I must face cold, heavy snow
that weighs down fragile tree limbs
I must look at a winter wonderland
that I wish was instead evergreen

buds of Spring
on a Spring morning
buds begin to break through vines
for you have return
to warm my ice cold heart that
has been weeping since autumn
birds sing melodies
our garden blooms once again
please just stay with me
let us chase the sun and moon
into summer’s horizons

sunsets
sunsets are our goodbyes
to all of the day’s errors
we welcome the stars
that will lull us to sleep
we dive into dreams
lost in midnight hours
we forget for a short time
what await us at dawn
