anxiety

she wanted to enjoy
the good times
but anxiety always
had her on edge –
worrying about what
may spoil the moment
so she went through
the motions with a
smile but with cautious
eyes and ears, wide open
for some omen to
suddenly appear

  1. Ah.....you've captured the essence of anxiety well. The always-looking-out-for-that-which-will-spoil-the-goodness-you-don't-even-see-all-around-you response. That is indeed anxiety.
Therapists suggest instead, "expect the best." Quite a different aura to carry around with you than anxiety.
Glad you posted to the prompt!

  2. Anxiety can spoil the moment. But at least one is ready for what doesn't happen.

  3. I know that feeling, you've conveyed it well. I'm going on a train journey tomorrow and I already have a gnawing in my stomach.

  4. Isn't that sad, when all is well we worry it will get worse, and when it's bad we worry more... better sometimes to just wait and enjoy.
