far off I hear bells ringing

I take in the leaves
of red, orange and gold
under a blue sky
I hear the soft steps
of deer grazing nearby
the sun is high but
soon will dip below
far off I hear the bells
ring signaling the
coming of winter

October afternoon

we sat side by side
sipping lattes
while dogs in jackets
walk by

under autumn sun
the golden leaves
shower our heads
like raindrops

we walk hand in hand
towards setting sun
the moon waits
behind clouds

opposite sides of the track

they were from different
sides of the track but they
always say opposites attract
who knew they would become
the new Romeo and Juliet,
an updated West Side Story
a love story older than time
yet still we wonder
how the tale will end

in autumn

we watch the sun
dips into the horizon
as summer slips away

the evening sky
paints in lovely shades
as we grow closer
in minds and hearts

far off, a hill lies
bare of green
now blooming in
autumn hues
