dreaming of spring in winter
I dream of blooming flowers
and bright warm sunrises
that bring forth clear blue skies
yet when I open my eyes
I’m greeted by barren trees
snow covering the grass
and icy breezes at sunrise

as the leaves fall
under skies
cobalt blue
the leaves fall
in hues of
orange, red
yellow, brown
and my heart
thinks of you
that last kiss
now fading
away like
summer’s bliss

as the seasons change
late summer
the sun fades sooner
crisp mornings
turning leaves
I bid farewell to summer
as autumn arrives

slumbering through the seasons
when the autumn leaves fell
the trees slipped into a slumber
before winter sprinkled the mountains
with snow white glaze
when spring flowers burst through
emerald grass we chased after
butterflies into summer’s gaze
that held us enthralled until
she departed with twilight kisses

from November to December
shadows of November
turn into darkness
of December evenings
autumn has lost her grip
lady winter will soon
make her arrival
the golden leaves
have gone away
naked limbs now dance
outside my window
frigid air knocks on
my door to be let in

tumbling like leaves
we tumble
like autumn leaves
outstretched hands
attempt to
catch us before
we hit the ground
yet we glide
around the trees
sing melodies
as the ground
grows closer
we lie in piles
of red, orange
and yellow stars
crisp blue sky
stares down
at our sighs

warm soup in autumn
cool rains in autumn
chases away hot summer
chicken noodle soup
fills our bellies with warm thoughts
at the leaves change to brown

a last gasp
I hear the birds chirping
and flowers trying to
burst through the ground
people ready to shred
their heavy coats to enjoy
the warm sunshine
from the shadowy corner
winter makes her last gasp
sending chilly air before
she must pass over her crown

October afternoon
we sat side by sid
e
sipping lattes
while dogs in jackets
walk by
under autumn sun
the golden leaves
shower our heads
like raindrops
we walk hand in hand
towards setting sun
the moon waits
behind clouds

winter solstice
t
he shortest day of the year
fades into darkness
a snip of smoke
echoes out of a chimney
lady winter has made
her promised arrival

a beautiful night in autumn
a beautiful night
for poetic musings
autumn leaves whisper
into the black sky
I string rhymes
along silver stars
to drift into galaxies
far and wide
