in her leather purse
she always had peppermints
for a variety of remedies and
I knew where she kept them
even when I had too many
she would never scold me
but now she’s gone leaving
me with warm memories
of that nostalgic scent
It is nice how peppermint reminds you of someone from the past. I think I associate people with foods I rarely eat except when they were present.
ReplyDeleteLove the memories...my grandma would give us 2 pink peppermints for church :)
ReplyDeletewhat a sweet memory...nostalgic scent indeed!
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have that memory from such a scent
ReplyDeleteSmells are so good for evoking memories - peppermint reminds me of my grandfather. Your poem did the same for me this morning - thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderfully redolent!❤️
ReplyDeleteIt's true isn't it? My grandmother, who lived in Florida, always wore orange blossom perfume...the kind you could get a the gift shop which we always stopped at as we crossed the state line, driving to visit her each summer. To this day, when I peel an orange, I think of her because of that scent! :)

ReplyDeleteIt must've been a loving grandma who kept the mints in her purse. What a nice memory.
Oh, this one got me. Yesterday, I was going through some of my mom's purses and she used to carry cloves to sweeten her breath. I just had to stand there and breath that heady scent before getting the purses ready to donate. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI love the memories of that scent of peppermints ~
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone :)
